About GMRF

The Greater Manly Residents Forum started in late 2016 when the Northern Beaches Council - a result of the merger of the Manly, Warringah and Pittwater Councils - decided not to continue Manly Council's successful Precinct system. Despite this, residents from the Ivanhoe Park and Fairlight Precincts banded together to continue as an independent, combined group known as the Greater Manly Residents Forum.

"To assist the residents of Greater Manly to safeguard the culture and lifestyle of the area for residents, for the foreseeable future. To work with the Northern Beaches Council and the Government of New South Wales to ensure sustainable tourism, maintain and enhance the area as an ecologically sustainable environment with a lifestyle embracing diversity, tolerance and community engagement for the betterment of all."

Chair: Denise Keen
Co-Chair: Nick Reid
Treasurer: Nick Reid
Secretary: Vacant (please volunteer if you are able)
Media Coordinator: Gary O'Brien

Review - Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act

This has been sent in by one of our supporters, and we thought many of you may be interested.

I wanted to make sure that you are aware that Australia’s primary piece of environmental legislation, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (the EPBC), is currently under review. This only happens one every TEN YEARS. Public submissions are open until 17th April 2020 (next Friday).

This long weekend would be a fantastic opportunity to spend a couple of hours putting together a submission to make your voice heard to the Australian government about nature’s importance to you and what you think the future of environmental protection should look like in this country (and maybe encouraging some other people to do so too!).

The Wilderness Society has put together some great resources on the topic and how to put together an effective submission – including an extensive video.

We don’t often get a chance to really make ourselves heard on specific matters of importance. So let’s make the most of it.

Please feel free to pass this on. -posted 8Apr20.

News from local Councillor/Deputy Mayor Candy Bingham

Candy was kind enough to attend our July AGM. In addition to thanking the GMRF for pushing through the Roseberry Street study, Candy updated us on some very worthwhile initiatives from Council happening in our area. These are outlined in Candy's June newsletter and include:

  • night parking in Manly - reduced to just $5 after 7pm in Council-operated car parks. This is a great win for both our local businesses and the community;
  • a review of the existing Manly Surf Lifesaving Club building, which is vastly inadequate for the community's current needs;
  • upgrades to the Fast Ferry wharf;
  • release of the draft flood study for Manly - Seaforth; and
  • details on $550,000 of grants available from Northern Beaches Council.

More details on all of the above can be found on Candy's website here. -posted 4Jul18.
